Window seals. Not the things that swim in the oceans
Nothing used was sponsored. Everything we used we purchased.
Window seals. Not the things that swim in the 8 oceans of the world. I’m talking about the window seals on my 2011 4Runner. The exterior window seal trim. They just started to fall apart all at once. In some parts the seal started to break down and become all gummy. All four doors including the lift gate. Dry rot in the desert of Southern Utah is a thing. Not fake news.
I’ll admit I wasn’t putting any type of rubber protectorate like silicone spray on the window seals. I did wash my truck just not on any type of set routine. I probably could have prevented this better or at least slowed the breakdown of the seals. Well they died. Dead and gone. I needed to get these fixed. I didn’t want the door electronics and my nice speakers in the doors to get water damaged. Mostly for my speakers.
I ordered the window seals online from a Toyota direct parts dealer on Amazon. They just came in and I decided to put them on that day as well. So, I was setting up my stuff and getting my tool for the job. That is when I noticed that Amazon had shipped two of the same sides for the rear doors. I called the local dealership. One, I didn’t want to wait for them to send the right one. I just sent back the wrong one later when I had time. Two, the local dealership had this one in stock. Plus, Same price as the online store. The shipping from the online store made it the same price as the local dealership. Changing these seals was easy as changing your skid marked undies. Some simple tabs. I used my handy dandy trim tool. I used the new weather trim seal as a reference on where and how the tabs worked.
*Update - You can now find a 4pc kit on Amazon for the same price as what I paid for one Toyota part.
